At the beginning of August, let us know if you think you'll be able to attend the golf and/or the dinner. It's not a commitment and no money is necessary in advance; we just want to provide the course and the bar the courtesy of an approximate count to prepare for.

To let us know your status or to learn why your obvious receiving talents were squandered on the offensive line, email Coach Calcagno, rcalcagn@pacbell.net.

You'll be able to make any necessary payment the day of the event. (deja vu?)

Accomodations

If you're planning to attend the evening dinner and partake in the full measure of available activities, you may be (wisely) considering an overnight stay in the area. In addition to numerous teammates residing in Sonoma county, there is a range of hotel/motel options within a reasonably short distance of the dinner site (as well as the downtown area) in Petaluma. These include:

Best Western Inn - Petaluma: This is a motel complex located northeast of Mario & Johns. It is near South McDowell and McNeill, near the East Washington approach to US-101. The address is 200 South McDowell Blvd. Also around a mile from the tavern, it is a less direct walk from Mario & John's than the Sheraton, though a very brief cab ride. It's the basic fare, but the manager is a good dude who coaches football at Petaluma High with your Calcagno Classic host, John Crudo.

Sonoma County Sheraton - Petaluma: This is a relatively new hotel on the Petaluma marina. If you are looking for something a little more upscale, it is conveniently located near the Highway 116/Lakeville access to US-101, not to mention only a miile or so down the road from Mario & John's. The Sheraton is located at 745 Baywood Drive (at Lakeville Blvd); it is a direct walk (or stumble) along Lakeville from Mario & Johns to the Sheraton.

Motel 6 Petaluma: This is another motel complex, located further north on McDowell Blvd., past the Best Western. Probably not walkable from Mario & John's, it is still a short cab ride away, and in a quieter location. Located at 1368 North McDowell Blvd., this motel is closest to the Old Redwood Highway on-/off-ramps from US-101.

Keep checking back. There are more in the area and this list will be updated.

Calcagno Classic 2016

Celebrating the Calcagno Classic in Video:

Tee Off: Noon at Washoe Golf Course
Followed by: Mario & John's about 3 PM

featuring BBQ by Faron's of Petaluma

Welcome to the online home for the "Calcagno Classic," the annual golf reunion of Coach Calcagno's S.I. football teams.

Open to all of those who toiled for Ray either as player or coach, the event uses golf and dinner as an excuse to get together players from Coach Calcagno's S.I. teams. This has proven a great opportunity to rekindle old friendships, catch up with former teammates, enjoy a few adult beverages, and listen to some tall tales that have grown to fantastic proportions over the passing years.

Information and news regarding the event will be available here. At this site, you will find Classic updates, including directions to the course and dinne; places to stay overnight in the area; fees; and other information.

Washoe Creek Golf Course, Cotati

Washoe Creek is a 3-par excutive golf course with two fields of fire course options. Designed by Fred Bliss, it opened in 2006. It includes a small driving range and snack/pro shop. Click the link for course information.

Washoe Creek is located about 45 miles north of the Golden Gate, at 1475 West Sierra Avenue in Cotati, CA (click the link for a map and driving directions from any location you enter) ((707) 792-7700). Take the West Sierra exit from 101 and head west on West Sierra. It'll be on the right side of the road.

Mario & John's Tavern, Petaluma

Mario & John's Tavern has hosted the post-golf activity since 2009, particularly the BBQ and the no-host bar. Now under new management, owner Micah Porter is our willing and gracious host and post-golf grub and drinks will once again be found at M&J's.

Mario & John's is located in scenic Petaluma at 428 East D Street, near Lakeville Boulevard It features ample parking, a large full service bar, abilliards, shuffle board, a large-screen television, and dice cups. This well-rounded facility is more than equipped to accomodate the Classic's post-golf dining event.

A WORD ABOUT TRAFFIC

TRAFFIC WILL SUCK, if you take the same route as every other driver heading to Graton Casino or the Russian River through the Novato narrows and the reconstruction/commuter train CalTrans career-building projects on 101, so....

  1. Don't Take 101 north of CA-37.
    • From 101, take CA-37 East, toward Vallejo. Head east for about 5 miles; stay to the left as you approach the traffic light-controlled intersection with Lakeville Road.
    • From 80, take CA-37 West, toward Novato. Get in the right lane as you approach the traffic light-controlled intersection with Lakeville Road, about two miles beyond Infineon Raceway.
    • Take Lakeville Rd. north and follow it into Petaluma.

  2. Take Lakeville to Mario & John's:
    • Stay on northbound Lakeville (CA-116 will break east toward Sonoma, about halfway in; stay on Lakeville St);
    • Turn right (east) on D Street in Petaluma.
    • Mario and John's is on the second block, right hand side (428 East D Street).

  3. Take Lakeville to Washoe Creek Golf Course:
    • Stay on northbound Lakeville (CA-116 will break east toward Sonoma, about halfway in; stay on Lakeville St). It will bend west just before terminating at a T-intersection with Petaluma Blvd.
    • Turn right (north) onto Petaluma Blvd North.
    • Get into the #2 lane and turn left (north) onto Stony Point Road.
    • Stay on Stony Point for about 5-1/2 miles.
    • Turn right (east) on West Sierra Avenue.
    • Washoe Creek Golf Course is on the left, about a quarter mile from Stony Point.
